News and Announcements:

September 13, 2007 Cover Journal of Physical Chemistry C, Vol. 111, Issue 39, 13348-13353.

"Collective Buckling of Periodic Soft Nanostructures on Surfaces and Promotion for Nanolithography",  Congratulations to Haojing Lin, Jiashi Yang, Li Tan, et al.

August 22, 2007   Lanping will be out of the office from September 4 to 14, 2007. If you need help during this time, please contact LeighAnn Nicholl (472-3782, 438-1278, lnicholl@unlserve.unl.edu, Brace 308E) and/or Sy-Hwang Liou (472-2405, sliou@unl.edu, Brace 364).
Dec 19, 2006   Holiday shutdown notification--During UNL holiday closedown (Dec. 23, 2006 to Jan. 1, 2007), the SPM central facility and computers in the lab will be turned off to save energy.
Nov 27, 2006   Due to there is no compressed air tube built in our new SPM lab (Ferguson 16), we use the compressed gas cylinder to provide 50 psi air to the vibration isolation table. Before you load your sample, please slowly open the cylinder valve until the full cylinder pressure is indicated on the high pressure regulator gauge. Then, open the cylinder valve all the way. Please check that the delivery gauge should be read about 50 psi operating pressure. After you are finished imaging, please remember to close the cylinder valve. A regulator is not intended to be used as a shut-off device. When not in use, the cylinder valve should be closed. Thanks for your attention and cooperation!
Nov 22, 2006   SPM central facility is in an operational status now. You are welcome to the new Lab for materials imaging and characterization.
Nov 20, 2006   SPM Lab has moved to Ferguson Hall, room 16.
Nov 16, 2006   SPM central facility shut down for moving.
Nov 6, 2006   SPM facility will be moved to  the Nanofab Facility (Ferguson Hall, room 16). We will arrange to shut down the SPM central facility several days for moving, setup and installation, testing, and calibration.
Nov 29, 2005   SPM facility gets back to the normal operating conditions.

SPM website has a direct link to an online instrument sign-up calendar (http://cmra-pcf.unl.edu/spm/calendar.htm). Trained and registered users have been given accounts to make a reservation for using SPM. Please remember to sign-up for the SPM schedule before you use it!

Nov 22, 2005   A Power Lever electronic door lock has been installed on 367 Behlen (CMRA SPM facility) lab. For all authorized SPM users, the Power Lever Door Lock is accessed via a combination entered at the keypad. The combination length is six digits (two-digit user ID + four-digit PIN). The combination will always be unique to a given user who will receive a valid combination via email.
Nov 9, 2005   SPM is temporarily out of order. SPM head scanner will be repaired.
Oct 21, 2004   Problem on SPM has been fixed. SPM is available for users now. All SPM users should be very careful in using SPM facility. Please see instructions for how to use SPM correctly. Please read the notice on the wall of the SPM Lab to know how to protect the SPM scanner. Thanks for your attention.
Oct 18, 2004   SPM is shutdown. The power supply and X-Y board on the Nanoscope controller IIIa have been replaced. The Z-board for the controller will be changed.
Sep 16, 2004   The trouble-shooting of the zoom motor on the SPM has been finished. This should be resolve the problem of zooming in and out of video images that we have been experiencing lately.
Mar 31, 2004   SPM facility website with a direct link to an instrument sign-up calendar is online.

SPM facility is available for use by all qualified faculty, students and researchers at UNL, as well as by researchers from other universities and industries. Scheduling is handled on first-come first-serve basis by sign-up the instrument reservation calendar online. A facility specialist is available to assist researchers using the instrument .
